چکیده
Abstract. Statistics of anticyclonic eddy activity and trajectories in the Levantine Basin over 2000–2018 period are analyzed using DYNED-Atlas database, which links automated mesoscale detection by Angular Momentum Eddy Detection Tracking Algorithm (AMEDA) algorithm to situ oceanographic observations. This easternmost region Mediterranean Sea, delimited coast Cyprus, has a complex eddying activity, not yet been fully characterized. In this paper, we use Lagrangian tracking investigate fluxes interactions between different subregions area. The structure above Eratosthenes Seamount is identified as hosting an anticyclone attractor, constituted succession long-lived anticyclones. It larger radius more persistent (staying same position for up 4 years with successive merging events) than other eddies region. Quantification flux shows that anticyclones drift towards mainly formed along Israeli or neighboring area west seamount. southeastern isolated, no transfers from western part basin, defining effective attraction basin attractor. Co-localized profiles inside provide quantitative information on their subsurface physical anomaly signature, whose intensity can vary greatly respect dynamical surface signature intensity. Despite interannual variability, so-called attractor stores amount heat salt anticyclones, deeper usually extends down 500 m. suggests could concentrate subbasin, will impact properties intermediate water masses created there.

Hydrocarbon-related microbial processes in the deep sediments of the Eastern Mediterranean Levantine Basin.
During the 2011 exploration season of the EV Nautilus in the Mediterranean Sea, we conducted a multidisciplinary study, aimed at exploring the microbial populations below the sediment-water interface (SWI) in the hydrocarbon-rich environments of the Levantine basin. Two c. 1000-m-deep locations were sampled: sediments fueled by methane seepage at the toe of the Palmachim disturbance and a patch...
متن کاملSpatio-temporal aerosol trace metal concentrations and sources in the Levantine Basin of the Eastern Mediterranean
The current study considers the spatial and temporal variability in aerosol trace metal concentrations (Al, Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn) in the Levantine Basin of the Eastern Mediterranean, utilising an extensive sample library (n 1⁄4 621) collected between 1999 and 2001, at two coastal sites located at the northern, Erdemli (Turkey) and southeastern, Tel Shikmona (TS, Israel), region of the Bas...
متن کاملUpdate on the Cetacean Fauna of the Mediterranean Levantine Basin
The Levantine Basin (LB) is still considered a void as regards its cetacean fauna: species population abundance and distribution patterns are unknown, and even the list of species and their regional status have so far not been finalized. In an effort to fill the knowledge gap, we present original data collected in the LB over the years 1993-2009. The data relies on strandings, bycatch victims a...
متن کامل51. Formation and Destruction of the Eratosthenes Seamount, Eastern
The first of two tectonic-oriented objectives during Leg 160 in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea (April–May, 1995) was concerned with study of processes of genesis and incipient collision of the Eratosthenes Seamount, a substantial crustal feature, with the active margin of the Eurasian plate to the north, represented by southern Cyprus. The upper part of the Eratosthenes Seamount (upper several h...
